About Life Power Now

I’m Dr. Rolf Danner, Editor and Publisher of Life Power Now. Welcome to the leading magazine for gay men in prime of our lives. We’ll cover a broad range of topics on the lavender agenda of gay men in our 30s, 40s, and 50s. To start, let me tell you a little about myself.

I was born in 1964 in a small town in Germany, about 20 miles north of Munich. In my late teens I would have never guessed that I’d end up as a publisher of a gay magazine in Southern California. Though there were early signs. To this day I’m thankful to my parents that they never took my dolls away from me, and that they didn’t interfere with my imaginative storytelling. In high school, my close group of geeky friends formed a protective shield against the outside world. I was effortlessly good at Math and Science and always hated to memorize dry facts. Combine this with my joy of traveling and you see how I ended up studying physics and astronomy. I didn’t wander far from that path until I ran out of degrees to take and held a barely dry PhD.

A few years earlier, at the not so tender age of 28, I had made it to California on a graduate student fellowship. At first, I just wanted to escape small town life, get away from a stifling social life, and come out as a gay man. Much to my surprise, I fell in love with Los Angeles and the California life. Eventually, I made my home here and took my first job at a NASA center, and today I am an American citizen. On this journey, I found that coming out was about so much more than who I had sex with. After close to twenty years in physics I was ready to bring much more than my intellect to the work I do.

In the summer of 2005, I finally put it all together. Running a Bulletin Board System in the early 80’s in Germany, my life as an immigrant in America, coming out as a gay man, and my personal lessons from individual and group therapy. Having worked for public television stations, done interviews for radio and television on NASA science, produced at least one documentary with a fellow graduate student and leading the development of a major web presence came in handy too.

Today you witness the progress along a new path. Welcome to the gay magazine for all of us. The place where we remind each other of all we have to share and celebrate.

Love,

Rolf
